Project Description: The College of New Jersey has a strong commitment to building quality and energy conservation. With that in mind, they made sure commissioning was a big part of their New Library project. After an extensive RFP process, The College of New Jersey chose Dome-Tech Commissioning Services.
Although Dome-Tech was brought in during the construction phase, all activities that are normally performed during the Planning and Design Phases, including the Commissioning Plan and the Design Intent were carried out retroactively. Schedule was critical to The College of New Jersey and commissioning had to fit into an already tight timeline.
The New Library has critical indoor air quality standards that must be met in order to preserve the library collections. The facility must also maintain comfortable working environments for students, faculty and staff all hours of the day and night. Temperature is regulated to 72-74 degrees and humidity is kept between 45%-55%, 365 days a year. The library is energy efficient and uses quality equipment with extended life-cycles, laid out to allow frequent and efficient maintenance. Redundant environment controls maintain 66% or higher load coverage upon any single component failure. The library facilities include reference areas, 24 hour study rooms, cafe, auditorium and support staff office spaces.
Dome-Tech commissioned all central variable air volume (VAV), constant volume and split system HVAC systems, VAV boxes, heat exchangers, pumps and automatic DDC controls. The new Library employees Honeywell DDC controls to match existing campus equipment and is full BacNet compatible for future expansions. |
