Project Description: Princeton's original boiler plant was built in 1923 and eventually fitted with updated equipment and modernized into a cogeneration/ boiler facility. The chiller plant section was built in 1962 and a large addition of chiller capacity and a thermal energy storage capability was added in 2005.
With the addition of the new chiller capacity and ancillary equipment, Dome-Tech provided commissioning services to test and start-up both the new and existing equipment in the chiller plant. This equipment included two new chillers totalling 5,000 tons, a 40,000 ton-hour thermal storage tank, a new cooling tower and the extensive addition and replacement of pumps, motor control centers, main power supplies and safety alarm systems. The new chiller plant consists of a 2.6 million gallon thermal storage tank, 2 electric centrifugal chillers (rated for 2,700 tons and 2,300 tons), 4 plate and frame heat exchanges, a 5 cell cooling tower, associated pumps (TES chiller, TES system, chilled water, condenser water, etc.) and various support equipment.
This scope of work included complete and detailed construction phase commissioning including:
· verify and document proper performance of the chillers, thermal energy storage tank, plate and frame heat exchangers, cooling towers and various support equipment per their design criteria and guarantees · ensure that the system components - chillers, thermal energy storage tank, plate and frame heat exchangers, cooing towers and various support equipment are installed and properly and receive adequate operational check-out · ensure that O&M manuals are detailed and complete
· ensure that Princeton University operations and maintenance personnel are adequately trained
The chiller plant expansion and thermal storage unit will continue to support Princeton University's growing capacity needs. This project was completed in September 2005. |
