Project Description:
The Human Genetics and Biomaterials Research Facility is located on the Busch Campus of Rutgers in Piscataway, New Jersey. Built to exacting standards, the Bio-Research building houses cutting edge research and teaching in advanced genetic research. Encompassing 78,000 sf of floor space, the building has three occupied floors, a large basement for mechanical equipment and an elevated link to an adjacent facility. At a construction budget of $23.5 million, Rutgers is committed to producing a facility that is second to none.
Dome-Tech Commissioning Service was brought into the project during construction and developed the Commissioning Plan and Design Intent retroactively while simultaneously performing submittal reviews. Schedule is critical and the commissioning authority must fit the required functions into the already tight schedule. Dome-Tech came up to speed quickly and was on the site fast to head off problems before thew grew.
Mechanical systems include an on-site chiller plant connected to the campus chiller water loop and on-site heat exchangers for clean steam and heating hot water connected to the campus high temperature loop. The HAVC system is full variable air volume employing Phoenix brand air valves with full Honeywell DDC control of fume hoods, lab supply, lab exhaust and relative space pressurization. The DDC controls also serve the atrium emergency smoke control system. The entire system is backed up with an emergency generator and automatic transfer switchgear.
A system this powerful needs commissioning to ensure a perfectly functioning building. When nothing less will do, Dome-Tech Commissioning is the client's commitment to quality.
