Marriott International New Jersey Textile Services Microturbine Installation
Design Build Services

Project Profile:
Project:   Microturbine Generating Plant
Owner:   Marriott International – New Jersey Textile Services
Project Type:   Energy Supply Side Cogeneration
Project Cost:   $840,000
Annual Cost Savings:   $250,000

Project Details:
The hotel and hospitality industry has countless competitive challenges. In order to keep their leadership position, Marriott International needed to keep their existing cogeneration infrastructure at their central laundry facilities in Edison, New Jersey viable and cost effective.

Challenge:
The laundry facilities had long been served by on-site cogeneration for electricity and hot water. As the existing system neared the end of its useful life, Marriott was faced with a difficult decision. Should they build new infrastructure to serve its utilities needs, or find a cost effective way to upgrade the cogeneration system?

Solution:
Through combined efforts of analyzing, designing and developing cost effective energy solutions, DES was able to address Marriott’s desire to maintain a competitive edge with new technology while preserving its financial requirements of cost effective and prudent investment in infrastructure.

Results:
A 420 kW power plant was installed with the latest in microturbine technology. Ingersoll-Rand 70 Series Microturbines replaced existing packaged cogeneration units at the facility. No longer does Marriott need to worry about returning to conventional, high cost energy to service the facility. Clean, reliable electricity keeps Marriott at the forefront of their competitive industry.
